Book Proposals PDF Print E-mail

Scottish Left Review Press seeks to publish books which will contribute to left and radical thinking in Scotland. We therefore seek proposals from authors or editors for new books to be published under our imprint.

In order that we can evaluate the suitability of proposals in advance of them being written, we ask that authors and editors submit a synopsis of their proposal in a standard format.

The synopsis for considering of your proposal should consists of :

a) the rationale for the book, b) details of the chapters, c) a market/readership assessment and d) details of the author or contributors.

The rationale should comprise what the book is about, what its argument/thesis concerns, what is new or different about the book and what it will contribute to left and radical thinking.

The details of the chapters should be chapter synopses where these are by different contributors as per an edited book.

Where there is a single authored book, the chapter synopses should be collapsed into a summary of the main themes and parts/sections of the book.

The market, audience and readership assessment should comprise a view of what the competing titles are and what type of people will buy/read the book.

Details of the author/contributors should comprise previous publications and writings, and occupation.

The entire proposal document should be three pages long as a minimum (excluding the chapter synopses for an edited book which should be a paragraph of at around a third of a page each).

Where manuscripts are submitted, the information on the rationale for the book, a market assessment and details of the author or contributors must still be received.
